This article will explain how to ensure that item attributes are consistent between the published and prepublished preview pages using the navigation index to enable them to be used in facets and other rules.
Scenario
When you wish to display and attribute in the preview pages, you need to update the system display fields for both published and prepublished configurations.
Prerequisites
Item attributes should already be enabled in the navigation index.
Updates to the navigation index will not be covered in this article. However, Please review the following article if you are unfamiliar with the process.

Steps
- Once you know which new attribute you wish to display on the preview pages, open the merchandising studio in the Display fields from the System tab.
- Now, with the Display fields page open, you must select whether you are updating Live or Preview. Select this from the left menu.
The default page loaded is preview, which is for the prepublished pages.
Live is for the published pages.
- Search for the new attribute by its name (here, the attribute is called "Label 1"
- To enable the new attribute for display, tick the corresponding radio button under Navigation, Search, etc..
The above shows that the attribute was enabled for Navigation, Search, and the detail page.
Note: you can update multiple attributes at once from this screen.
With all attributes enabled for display, use the "Save" button" to confirm selection.
- You will notice that after saving, the attribute will show against the item on the preview screens you have selected.

- You will need to repeat the process above using the Live option if you also need to display the attributes on the published preview pages.
