Video tutorial transcript
Introduction
Hello, and welcome to this short video introducing text campaigns.
This video demonstration will familiarise you with text campaigns and how they are set up in Fredhopper’s Merchandising Studio.
Please be aware that test data is used throughout this demo, and you should refer to your own data sets when applying this functionality.
What are text campaigns?
The simplest, but at the same time most versatile campaign type. This can be used to supply additional text content to the front-end. The text can be used for rendering or any additional content to supplement the page like (HTML, Metadata, etc.) SEO.
So how do we set up a text campaign in the Merchandising studio? Let’s use a scenario to implement one.
We want to add some text to appear on all pages on our site, that displays information about free shipping on orders over 75 pounds, and a link to a URL with further information.
How to demo
- Using your credentials open your Merchandising Studio. This will open on the campaigns tab by default:
- Click new.
- Let’s call this text campaign Shipping.
- Click SELECT SCOPE and choose the scope.
- Remember to add labels – so well give this a fashion label, found in the menu above.
- For this scenario, we won’t set up any additional triggers, as we’d like this campaign type to trigger on every page, so we’ll just use the triggers inherited from the parent scope.
- Scroll down to action; you’ll see that 'Items' is already selected as default in the 'Show' dropdown, so change this to 'Text.
- Next, we need to add the text we want to appear on the campaign. So in the title field, I’ll add Free UK Shipping. We’ll add some text to subtitle 1 & 2 too (For orders over £75 and (excl. sale items) respectively).
There is a preview box to the right displaying the text you have entered. - There is an option to add a link to a URL and also to open in a new window, so let’s add a URL link here and check 'Open in new window'.
We could choose to link the text to a location in our site, but for now, we’ll add a URL as above. - Check your text campaign configuration is accurate and click Save:
- It’s best practice to check the campaign is firing as expected, so go to your Preview site. Now, navigate to any home or detail page to check that the text campaign appears and the link works.
- If you are happy with your campaign in Preview … go back to the Merchandising Studio and Send the text campaign for Publication.
- Once the campaign is published it will trigger according to your cache process.
Best practices
- Campaigns can be set up in advance. To do this use the date and time trigger.
- De-active or archive campaigns that are not currently in use, which you can reactivate and publish at a later date (annual/seasonal events).
- Add appropriate labels so you can easily find campaigns.
