This article will explain how to add attributes to the navigation index to enable them on facets and other rules.
Scenario
When a new attribute needs to be used in any business entity, like facets and rankings, campaigns,
or result modifications, it should be enabled in the navigation index first.
Steps

- Once a new attribute has been loaded - open the merchandising studio to the navigation index
(System --> Navigation)
- Now, with the navigation index page open - search for the new attribute by its name (here, the attribute is called "Label 1"
- To enable the new attribute, click the red status, which will update, and turn it green to indicate enabled.
Alternatively, you can tick the radio button on the left if you will be updating multiple attributes.
With all attributes selected, use the "activate button" to enable the whole selection.
Now, you can save the navigation index using the "save" button.
- The next step is to publish the system settings.
You will notice that after saving the attribute, it now shows that it has a pending update.
Once saved - the top right of the screen should now show the option to "Send for publication"
If the publication button does not show, please click on the "Navigation" menu button again to refresh the page, and it should appear.
Click the button which will change the status shown to:
You can now publish the change from the 'Publication screen' or wait until it is published by your publication manager.
- Once the changes are published, please trigger a reindex in order to make the changes effective.
- Once a new attribute has been loaded - open the merchandising studio to the navigation index
