Video tutorial transcript:
Introduction
Hello, and welcome to this short video introducing items campaigns with the handpicked items option.
This video demonstration will familiarise you with items campaigns, specifically how to set up the option to handpick items from your catalogue in the Merchandising studio.
Please be aware that test data is used throughout this demo, and you should refer to your own data sets when applying this functionality.
What are handpicked items campaigns?
Items campaigns can provide a means to inspire shoppers to purchase your products.
Handpicking items means you can choose specific items you would like to be displayed on a page, this is best used for manual and bespoke merchandising, for example, a camera has a number of associated accessories that you want to show to your shopper when they are viewing a specific camera.
So how do we set up handpicked items campaign in the Merchandising studio? Let’s use a scenario to implement one.
The demo scenario is to handpick 3 products from our makeup category for lips. We will pick the top 3 products based on the highest sales in the last 28 days. These 3 products should only show on our Beauty category.
How to demo
Using your credentials open your Merchandising Studio. This will open on the campaigns tab by default:

Next … Click on new:

Let’s call this campaign Bestsellers:

Click SELECT SCOPE and choose the scope:

Don’t forget to add a label, this helps you to sort and find campaigns from the campaign's homepage.
In order for this campaign to fire on the beauty category, we will need to set up a location trigger.
To do this click on Select trigger and choose 'catalogue location' fro the dropdown:

Next click on ADD LOCATION:

This will take us to the preview site automatically.
Now we need to navigate to Beauty and select this location:

Next, we need to add the action, what happens when the trigger is met …
Scroll down to action; you’ll see that Items is already selected as default. Change the number of items from 1 to 3:
Now change where the items will come from. It is set to 'User location' by default so change this to Handpicked items:

If you know the product ID’s you can enter them into the field that appears. Otherwise, you can navigate to the products and choose them individually:

This dropdown allows you to sort the items as required, to ensure we pick the 3 products with the highest sales in the last 28 days:

Now we have the products sorted by sales in the last 28 days, so I’ll pick the first 3 that are shown.
Check the boxes for each of the top 3 products, finally clicking select product:

Note that the 3 product ID’s are showing in this field:

Check your configuration is accurate and click Save:

It is best practice to check the campaign is firing as expected, so click on Preview:

Now let’s navigate to the lips category to see the campaign is triggering, and then to another non-beauty category to check it doesn’t trigger anywhere else.
Great we can see the campaign in Beauty showing the 3 products, but it doesn’t appear anywhere else in our site.

If you are happy the campaign you have created, then go back to the merchandising studio and send it for publication:

Best practice
A few best practices to remember with regard to campaigns:
- Use the date and time trigger to set up campaigns in advance.
- De-active or archive campaigns that are not currently in use, which you can reactivate and publish at a later date (annual/seasonal events).
- Add appropriate labels so you can easily find campaigns. In a lengthy list of campaigns, labels help you find the campaign you are looking for quickly. Make sure that you have a concise list of labels and a clear naming convention for new labels. Establish internal guidelines for labelling and apply them.
