If a ranking attribute does not behave as expected or you need to readjust it to fit your merchandising goals better, you can modify its configuration.
Prerequisites
- Verify that you can create and manage ranking rules and attributes in the Merchandising Studio.Your user role determines your level of access to the Merchandising Studio. To change your role and level of access, contact a Merchandising Studio administrator from your team.
- Verify that each attribute that you want to use in your ranking cocktail meets the following requirements:
- The attribute has numeric values.
- The basetype of the attribute is int or float.
- The attribute is a product-level attribute.
- The attribute is active in the navigation index. To view the navigation index, go to SYSTEM > Navigation > Navigation index. A green check in the Navigation index column indicates that the attribute is active.
Scenario
We want to edit a ranking attribute and update the attributes for the ranking cocktail.
- Log in to the Merchandising Studio and navigate to RANKINGS > Ranking attributes.
- Locate your ranking attribute in the list and click its name. Or you can search by its name or ID in the search field.
- (Optional) If you want to show the ranking cocktail values on your localized websites, click Add localized name to configure the regional value formats. A new browser window opens and loads SYSTEM > Localization.
- To add a new attribute to the cocktail, click ADD ATTRIBUTE and from the Attributes drop-down menu, select the attribute that you want to use in your ranking cocktail.
-
Then adjust the Normalization. Normalization ensures that FHR can calculate the value of the ranking cocktail properly, even when you combine attributes of different basetypes and with different ranges of values. For more information, see Getting started with ranking attributes.
Option Description Linear Configured by default.
Maps values to a standard linear scale. Each equidistant mark on the scale represents an equidistant value in the range.
Choose this option, if all attribute values and ranges are equally important.Logarithmic Maps values to a logarithmic scale. Each equidistant mark on the scale represents the value at the previous mark multiplied by a constant.
Choose this option, if some attribute values and ranges are more important than others and need to have a significantly greater influence on the ranking cocktail.Pre-normalized 0.0-1.0 Does not apply normalization. Recommended for float attributes.
Choose this option, if the attribute values are already linearly distributed on the 0.0 to 1.0 scale.Pre-normalized 0-100 Does not apply normalization. Recommended for integer attributes.
Choose this option, if the attribute values are already linearly distributed on the 0 to 100 scale. - Choose the Pushing option that you want to use. For more information, see Getting started with ranking attributes.
Option Description High values on top Selected by default.
During normalization, maps high attribute values to the beginning of the scale and low attribute values to the end of the scale. This way, higher attribute values mean lower ranking cocktail values.Low values on top During normalization, maps low attribute values to the beginning of the scale and high attribute values to the end of the scale. This way, lower attribute values mean lower ranking cocktail values. - Drag the Weight slider to configure the weight of the attribute. The weight of any single attribute cannot exceed 100%. The sum of all attributes can exceed 100%.
For more information, see Getting started with ranking attributes. - (Optional) Click the padlock icon to lock the current attribute settings and prevent more changes.
- Save the change. Publish the update ranking rule, so it is reflected on the published endpoint as well.
- N.B. Click Remove at the end of the respective attribute line to remove an attribute.
Next steps
- Verify that any rules that use the modified ranking cocktail are still valid and work as expected. Based on your changes, some dependent rules might identify the ranking cocktail as invalid and start using a default system configuration instead.
- Use the ranking cocktail in campaigns, ranking rules, result modifications, and facets. Make sure to configure the sorting order for the ranking cocktail values in the business rules.
- If ready to go live, send the ranking attribute for publication.
- (Optional) Verify that any rules that use the ranking cocktail work as expected in the Preview Pages.
You can access the Preview Pages from your FHR containing /preview/. - (Optional) Enable the ranking cocktail as a display field.
