Welcome! This article will provide you with a simple step-by-step guide to creating a Mass Tag Assignment.
What is Mass Tag Assignment?
With XO, easily enrich your data and create product segments by building Mass Tag Assignment based on product IDs. You can easily assign one or several tags to a specific list of products with optional calendar terms.
This manual tag management is specifically used for event campaigns to push/filter a list of products in a merchandising rule.
| Purpose of this topic/feature * | This feature is typically used to create a merchandising campaign limited in time or/and to select a specific list of Items that you can not select through an attribute or an automatic tag |

| Sub-menu name in Merchandising studio/Freestyle Merchandising/EarlyBirds * | Mass Tag Assignment |
Scenario
We will base the scenario on a specific example. For the purposes of this guide we will use an EB demo account and name this campaign “December Great deals”.
In this example, our brand is a retail site. We would like to promote a specific list of products for a 2-day promotional campaign. This campaign should start on the 30 December 2019 at 00:01 and stop on the 31st December at 23h59.
Steps
Step 1: Add a new Mass Tag Assignment
Log in to the XO platform on your account and click on “Tags” and “Mass Tag Assignment” from the left-hand side menu. Click on “Add mass tag assignment” to get started.
Step 2: Create your Mass Tag Assignment
Next add a new tag and give it a “Title”– for the purpose of this example we’ll name ours “December Great deals Test”. You are free to create the title you wish (no case nor specific characters are prohibited, just avoid too long titles).
Then, name the “Tags” you want to apply to this Mass tag assignment. For the tag, please use specific characters to avoid any space otherwise each different word will be interpreted as different single tag (Ex: "December Great deals" should be “December_Great_deals” )
Prepare the product_ID of the “Items” concerned by the tag. Keep in mind that they need to be present in the catalogue during the period of the tag assignment. For your list of Items, you will select to use a delimiter or mark to separate each item as a “;” or “,” .
Copy and paste (or enter manually) the list of item IDs for your list.
Select a “Start date” and an “End date” to define the starting date of your tag assignment and an “End date”. This last one is optional but highly recommended to avoid unnecessary and heavy tag recomputing loads (you can define a late End date in case).
Finally, save your tag through the “Create” button. Your “December_Great_deals” tag is created.
Step 3: Finalise your Tag saving
Once saving, you will have the choice to :
1/ Lauch directly a "recompute tags"
In case you don't need to make other mass tag assignment and you wish your tag assignment to be applied immediately, select "Recompute tags"
2/ select "Add a new mass tag assignment"
In case you need to do several mass tag assignments in a row before recomputing them.
3/View all tag assignments
In case you want to have an overall view on your tag assignments before recomputing it.
Manual "recompute tag"
In case you skipped the regular modal described upper, you can manually recompute your tag:
Click on “Tags” and “Tag rules” from the left-hand side menu. Click on “Recompute tags” and let the recomputing be completed until the buttons turns back to “Recompute tags”. Please note that recomputing tag can be consuming, so please do it once all modification are made.
Step 4 : Check your Tag on the catalogue
You will see your tag December_Great_deals applied in the catalogue (click on “Catalog” and “Item List” from the left-hand side menu) and within your Item.
A color code is applied according to the status of your tag (“Applied” in green or “Pending” in orange – based on your defined Start date). When your defined “End date” is over, the tag will automatically be disappeared from the Item and the Mass tag assignment section.
Step 5
Option a: Use your Tag in a rule to boost your Items
We will now see how to use this tag assignment in your merchandising rules.
Start by creating a new rule (click on “Merchandising” and “Rules” from the left-hand side menu).
Create a new Rule to use your tag December_Great_deals in order to boost your selection of products among the XO recommendations.
For this test, we will name a new rule “December Great deals boost” and Label it as “Boost”. Add a “new rule” in the section “Specific rules” and select “Weighting” subtab in the Merchandising tab.
On the Weighting section, “Add tag list” and select among the list your tag “December_Great_deals”. You will add your desired weight (here, we select 8) and save your “December Great deals boost”.
Step 5
Option b: Use your Tag in a rule to filter on your Items
We will now see how to use this tag assignment in your merchandising rules.
Start by creating a new rule (click on “Merchandising” and “Rules” from the left-hand side menu).
Create a new Rule to use your tag December_Great_deals in order to apply a filter on your selection of products among the EB recommendations.
For this test, we will name a new rule “December Great deals filter”. Add a “new rule”, label it as “filter” go on merchandising tab, select “Filters”.
On the Filters section, add your tag December_Great_deals in the “Required tags” field and save your “December Great deals filter”.
Step 6: Apply your rule in a widget
We will now see how to use these rules based on your December_Great_deals tag.
Click on “Merchandising” and “Widgets” from the left-hand side menu. Select the widget that will apply your rule.
Then on “Merchandising” section, add either your December Great Deals boost or December Great Deals filter on the required distribution (in this video example, we chose the December Great deals boost).
Save your modification on your widget, and your rules will be applied.
Best practices
- If you plan to create regular & similar campaigns for different periods, you can add a date in title.
- If you want to create a new mass tag assignment by duplicating an existing tag:
- Add mass tag assignment and give it a new name (ex: December Great deals restricted selection”)
- Select “Use existing tag assignment”, select among the tags the one you wish to duplicate. All the items already defined will be loaded. You will just have to modify either the Items, either the Start/End date according to your needs
- This duplication process is useful when you don’t want to change all your existing rules based with that existing tag.
Next steps
To test: go to a page calling your widget and check through the XO Chrome the rule applying your tag
