Introduction to item kinds
This document will explain how to use the Item kinds feature.
Item kinds is a functionality of the console allowing you to sort the items sent in your product feeds in different types.
For example, you could use a product, banner, marketing type, etc.
By defining the item kind, you are then able to use specific attributes in your feeds for each item.

Scenario
Let's imagine we want to create an item kind for our banners. We'll use our demo site as an example.
Step 1
Look for Item kinds in the developers section of the console.
Step 2
Click on the 'add an item kind' button.
Step 3
Fill in the name you would like to use for your item kind, here we will use Banner for example.
You can also add a description for this new kind.
Step 4
The default fields are all the mandatory attributes that we require to import an item, they are pre-configured during the on-boarding phase.
Step 5
In the custom attributes, you can add any new attribute that you would like to add for this item kind.
Here we will add the season attribute, the type of the field will need to correspond to the type of value we are receiving for this field:
| Asset |
collection of elements, each identified by at least one array index or key |
| Boolean |
true or false value |
| Float |
numbers with decimals |
| Integer |
numbers without decimals |
| List |
text or numbers, separated with comma |
| Set | unique list of values, separated with comma |
| Text | any text |
| Timestamp |
date (YYYY-MM-DD HH:mm:ss) |
You can make it mandatory by ticking the corresponding blue box.
Step 6
After creating the item kind, you will also need to add this attribute to the config import which is located in Developers > Import configuration
Scroll down the page and click on the green + to add a new attribute.
It should have the exact same name as the attribute configured in Item kinds.
