What is XO Smart Merchandising studio?
XO console integrates a Smart Merchandising studio, a user-friendly interface for you to easily create and manage your business rules on each recommendation area, to blend our AI capabilities with your commercial goals and ensure optimal outcomes.
For each area and use case, define, test and adjust the right mix of merchandising rules, using variables within a trigger and filter and boost rules functionalities.
You don't know how to create a tag in XO? Keep calm and read:

Prerequisites
Before you begin, make sure you have access to the XO Console and a product feed available in XO. If you do not have access to it, please contact a console administrator who can create an account for you. If you don't know who is an administrator, you can open a ticket by choosing “I / my colleague needs access to an Attraqt service” from the drop-down menu when you click “Submit a request” in the support center.
Scenario
For the purposes of this guide we will use an XO demo account and tags created for this account.
In this case, we are in a partnership with the road bike brand Scott.
This partnership agreement requires us to always have two of their products recommended in our recommendation area, managed through XO widgets. We're launching a new season of road bikes and we would like to showcase these products on our home page.
Step-by-step guide
Step 1
Log into the XO console panel and click on the widget that you would like to update/apply a merchandising strategy. For the purpose of this demo we will use the widget Homepage Our Selection.
Step 2
Next, we need to define the split of strategies that we would like to have on this specific widget. Because of our agreement with the brand Scott, we'll divide the area into two distributions, the first with 2 products (Scott's) and the second one with the remaining 4 products displayed in order to have my widget with a total of 6 recommendations.
Step 3
In this step, we are setting up the strategy for the sponsored brand Scott. Just select the distribution of products where you want to apply the strategy, here we are picking the first one and we can now scroll down to apply our merchandising rule.
Step 4
Here we'd like to recommend Scott's new season road bikes. In order to so, we need to use the three TAGs Road_Bike AND New_season AND BRAND_scott applied on the "Required tags AND" box to select all the products from our product catalog that respect this condition.
Please bear in mind that we have applied our TAGs on the "Required tags AND" box because we want to recommend products that have those tree TAGs. If we would like to have more than one condition we need to use the "Required tags OR" box.
Step 5
Now, let's do the same on our second recommendation distribution. Once again, select the distribution and scroll down to set up your merchandising rules.
Step 6
Here we'd like to recommend new season road bikes excluding the brand Scott because we are already recommending this brand in the first distribution (steps 3 to 5).
In order to do so, we need to use the first two TAGs Road_Bike AND New_season applied on the "Required tags AND" box and to exclude the TAG BRAND_scott on the "Excluded tags" box.
Step 7
To complete this configuration please scroll down and click on "Update Homepage Our Selection".
Step 8
We have now completed the configuration of our Home Page strategy. We didn't apply any algorithm on the above merchandising rules. By default, the following configuration will be applied: User recommendation ( als ), Most popular items ( basic ) and Most trendy items of the moment ( basic ).
The applied tags will tailor the recommendations that our algorithm will pre-select.
